I Am Statements

I had a few stressful days last week, and I was feeling a mountain of anxiety about some decisions I was making. I tried to use some tools to get myself out of that spiral and moving into a more positive direction. I am very familiar with gratitude journaling and have done that for years, but sometimes it feels like it falls a little flat. I asked myself, “how can I be even more grateful?”

I started with “I am grateful for…” but then it morphed into “I am…,” and I filled two-plus pages of all the amazing things I am.

  • I am strong.

  • I am resilient.

  • I am healthy.

  • I am a good mother.

  • I am a good partner.

  • I am a good friend.

  • I am generous.

  • I am successful.

  • I am confident.

  • I am a hard worker.

  • I am smart.

  • I am funny.

  • I am loving.

  • I am loved.

  • I am safe.

This exercise allowed me to feel more grateful in my body and appreciate myself more — not just the things I have, but who I am. It’s good practice to acknowledge all of the great qualities we have, so we can remember who we are. We can then fully embrace the wonderful people we are meant to be by reminding ourselves of our power, strength, and resilience, even when times feel hard. I may not be perfect, but I am so many other things. And instead of questioning my decisions, I can remind myself that I am smart, I am intentional, and I am doing my best.
